Sends a chill down your spine! Really cool how it invokes an unsettling feeling. I know the game you've been inspired by even though I've not played it. Your depiction sends out the same wibes though. I also like the artwork's complexity and simplicity. I could see it printed on a T-shirt, yet it holds up as a desktop background. Really nice.

My only grief with it is that the rimlighting on the hands is a bit too strong on the high-res, makes it look a bit toony. On the image as shown in "normal" resolution on newgrounds that problem isn't there though. Overall though, I don't care since the image is brilliant. Well done :)

RuthlessPeasant responds:

Thank you for the critique. I'm glad you like it!
Also, which hands do you referring to? There's like four of them. :D
If the Six's hands, I had the feeling, since they are closer to the light source, they should be swimming in light, but maybe I overdid it. If you are referring to the reaching hands of Janitor and Twin, then oh well... I'm not perfect. :P

Second try to comment on this masterpiece! My first comment disappeared due to some server error or something?

I think this piece is amazing, the poses, colering, scene setup and the transition from level 1 to 99 is amazing. You can really recognize the charecter and even though I don't know the game from which this is from that well I got the reference. Additionally you master a skill I wish I had and that's when to STOP drawing detail to get more depth of view in the image. Perfect examples of this is the owl and the background. The fur is amazingly drawn as well and so is the armor design.

Two minor things though! First, the background behind the two images (the rock there) is low res which is a shame due to the quality of the rest. Second, the coat on the Level 99 charecter sort of melds with the background a bt much so it's hard to see what it is. I only saw it properly when I checked your wips. However, I'm not sure I am even worthy of commenting on your work, jawdroppingly good! I am looking forward to browsing your collection.

Cheers,
Dr. Emil Alégroth

Thank you,Dr. Emil , for taking time to write such an extensive, very positive and insightful review. I have a suspicion why your first attempt was lost. That probably was my fault. Thank you twice then.

That's a sweet looking spawn. Really caught the essence of the character with the cape, his magic, etc. Also thanks for sharing the video, I browsed through it and enjoyed it. Just started doing that type of comic-book shading that you used and learned a few tricks actually!

Regarding the picture, to give some constructive criticsm I think you should have made the mask (white part) a bit larger (but that's just my own preference). More objectively I think the mask on the face right side is shown a bit much which makes the face look a bit flat.

Overall though a really cool image. I'll check out some more or your work.

hagarrastamnz responds:

thanks!
Soon as i post it i realize the face look a little flat. But then i was like "meh Fuck it!". Good you confirm my suspicions, I'll be working on the planes of the face more from now on. Thanks for the help!

Haha, some great nightmare fuel right there :) I like the image and depiction of the scene with well chosen and executed cloathing from the charecters he has devoured ;) The only thing I'D comment on is that the inside of the mouth should have been in more shadow to give more depth. Otherwise a really cool piece :)

OscArt responds:

I agree, the inside of the mouth should be darker. I think I'll fix that after Jazza posts his video.

Great execution and fun idea. Good level of detail on the charecter contra the background, adding to the sense of depth in the image. Colors and shading is also well executed and sets a nice mood. Finally the pose is nice because he looks almost sad because of what he has had to do. Top notch piece :)

MartsArt responds:

Thank you so much for this review :D

Really dark but interesting image. Difficult to read exactly what has happened, why this woman is in the water, apparently bound. Had a nice little moment of going through some scenarios for the image, which I guess is the sign of a good painting :) In terms of execution I like that this started as a traditional piece, especially with watercolor as a medium! Really cool. Just which her right arm had been a bit thinner and that her right breast a bit rounder to match the left one better? Anyhow, great work, had been 5/5 if it hadn't been for the little twerks I mentioned.

Elionette responds:

Hi there! I appreciate your review and I'm so pleased it made you think! As for your critique, most breasts don't match, and one of her arms is further behind her to make it seem as if she's moving. I'm sorry it didn't read, so thank you for your critique, I will work on those things in future pieces! I just wished to clarify in case it makes you see the image in a new way.

The lighting in this image is amazing. Especially on the right side of her face. The subtle transitions into the blue is soo smoth I had to really look to see it. My brain was like: "yeah, this looks like a person, nothing to see here". But that's what makes this soooo good! I had to think to realize that it's an image almost :) Really well done, the pose and that stare into nothingness (saw in another comment that that was what you were going for) is just great. Amazing.

rainwalker007 responds:

Thank you so much for all the kind words. It has been a nice practice. Using 2 light sources for a portrait is a joy. Glad you liked it :)

My jaw dropped a little bit when I brought up the image. The charecter looks really cool and really answers the question what happened after the movies. Although, and on the other hand, now I want to see what actually happened as Ariel clearly has gone through some strife. Not to mention what happened to Blunder to make him that badass ;) The only thing that I would liked to have changed in the skull in her hand. It's size implies that it's a child skull almost, which makes the image VERY dark, and its coloring seems a bit to white for the environment. Regardless, I'm nitpicking. This piece is amazing! Well done.

Djoresh responds:

Haha, thanks. I notice it now as well. Her face used to be a bit smaller, about the same size as the skull, but it didn't feel right, I forgot to enlarge the skull along with her face, oops... It does give it a unintended darker edge. The skull is indeed to white. I should have made it more blue-like because it's in the water surrounded by blue light. Thank you for the pointers, I try to keep them in mind for future pieces

Really cool, love how the icecream still looks edible and taste whilts still being super nasty monsterous... things!

Aron-Ato responds:

Thanks xD

Really nice image, very gloomy. The underwater effect is really well done, perspective and proportions are also really well put together. The background also seems massive even though there isn't that much in it really. Just well choosen colors. Great work.

ArtbyGalen responds:

Thank you so much! I really appreciate that!

Hi, I'm a PhD in Software Engineering that uses art as an escape from my work. I like to draw but also to work in other media such as putty, which I've used to build my award winning showcars.
