Amazing! My 3 year old would love one of these! The best part, which I noticed you were also proud of, are the eyes that give them soo much life. Especially the ones with blue eyes. I particually like the gray and red ones. Since I can't even sew a square napkin, seeing something like this is really amazing.

I'm gonna take a look at your other work to see the other variants you have :) Very cool! Clear 5/5 and I wish you the best of luck in NYC :)

krissalus responds:

Thanks so much! That's so nice of you to say. :) Glad to see the red one getting some love, I wasn't too sure how that color combo would go over, but I am a big fan of red so I had to get one in!

This is great! I directly recognized the actor/charecter from the movie. There are some perspective issues with his face that skew the geometry a bit but as I said, it's still easy to see who it is. I also like the background and how it interacts with the foreground. Makes me think that he is high or something? Smoking something he shouldn't? ;)

Artistically the rendering is well executed, especially the hair. The shadow around the eyes and neck could have been a bit smoother though. The lighting, especially, and once more, the hair is hwever really nice :) Cool work. The perspective issues do however drag down my grade, motivating why I give it 4/5.

Rowyn25 responds:

Thank you!! I deffiantly glad I captured his likeness! But I agree I should have spent a bit more time on my shading. And thank you for the note on perspective, I shall work on that for my next painting!

Really interesting design. The linework gives a nice threedimensional feel to the creature yet being quite simplistic. The design of the face is nice also, reminds me of toothless, which gives some resmblence, yet overall this is truely a unique design. Almost feels nordic, makes me think about the dragonboats used by the wikings. The fact that the image is drawn on a traditional media is also really nice as the linework and execution is soo crisp. There are som areas that could have been better, for instance the back of the neck and the area closest to what I assume is the wing where the lines overlap a bit too much and therefore creates too much shadow. However, in general a really cool creature.

TheChessPlayer responds:

I appreciate that you commented! I'm glad you like the drawing and told me what I was wrong with!
It means a lot to me!

I somewhat agree with the other comment you got but I also love the subtleness of the expression as it fits with her almost being erased out of reality. There is a concern, yet hopeful, glare in her eyes. I like it. The art style is also really neat and I just learned a neat way of dealing with covered breasts by looking at how you did it!

Some critiscm then. FIrst, I'd wish that the lines on the shirt had been as neat as in the face even though this had taken some of the focus from the face. Additionally I wish that you'd skipped the glare in the headphones as the color of it does not match the rest of the piece. The bright yellow there is too strong. Otherwise a really nice, artistic, piece. :)

MAR-O responds:

HI. Im begginer, i just started drawing 1 year ago +-. Thanks for constructive criticism.

Nice, it's clear who the character is and the execution of it is good. The use of a less detailed background to give depth is also very nice. The main problem with the image, similar to the problems I have myself is that the eye is too big and the left side of the face too large. I've just realized that I do this myself and remembering some study on how humans analyze faces we focus on the mouth and eyes, making them more prominent. That is also why some of us draw them larger than they naturally are.

The shading and style of the image otherwise is nice and would make a nice piece for a comic I think. The anatomic challenges do hower bring down the grade for me, that's why I give a 3/5.

Cheers,

Thanks! That was very Helpful! I'm looking for some good tutorials to help understand how to properly draw the face. I realy apreciated your tips. thanks ^^

Not sure what to make of this image ;) I like it and dislike it at the same time. You can tell who the charecter is, and I am sure I would have even without the title. However at the same time this is not how I see her in her private life. This is however my personal opinion so let's disregard it for now :)

Over to the artistic style I really like the coloring of the piece. The reds and blues are in the same tone, the anatomy works and we can recognize the character as I said. However, the image looks a bit flat and I think it comes down to the shading. Pieces further back should have been a bit brighter and you could have been a bit bolder with the shading, especially next to the hand that is raised up. The shading against the wallpaper and overall across her is otherwise quite good. But as I said, some more contrast had been nice! Really dramatic images generally include the entire color-spectrum from black to white. Perhaps something to thing about for future works :)

Overall though, nice image! :)

Vitor-M responds:

I just thought the skin was cute lol, but you really analyzed this one. People compliment the shading, which I don't think is that good, and I'm glad you gave some criticism on it. I'm still trying to get better at coloring so thanks for the advice. Reviews like this honestly make my day and I see you helping many other artists too, so thanks a bunch!

Very nice! The use of media makes it even more impressive, especially how you've captured the reflections in the smooth surfaces of the violin. I am taking extra note on the side close to the hand. Very nice.

The overall artstyle is also nice, presenting a nice mix of realism and comic-book rendering. Whilst the shading of the violin and hands are more real, the hair, face, neck and some other shadows are more comic-bookesk. However, they all come together into a truely nice piece!

Some constructive critism though that also motivates my 4.5/5. First, the violin looks a bit warped. The piece closest to the player is a bit too high I think and second I'd liked you to have been a bit braver with the contrast, i.e. a bit bolder dark colors. Perhaps you can do a post-color correction in the digital media and add some more contrast?

My critism is however nitpicking as the overall piece, especially being a traditional drawing, is amazing and I could see it being a hanged painting or wallpaper in someones home. Really well done :)

Charis246 responds:

Thank you so much for your comment and constructive critism. I am always willing to learn from fellow artists and I can see improvement in my art over the years because I have. Thank you once again.

Wow, this thing is sooo complex. At first glance I was like... what is it? Then I was like, that is so simple. Then I realized: the shading and all the shapes here are insainly difficult to shade correctly! Especially with the different lightsources from the front and back. The creatures own lightsource could have given some better light on the top of it though, i.e. the blending of the blue "skincolor" and the yellow light could have been better. Now it's a bit too yellow I think (Motivation for 4.5/5). However, the complexity of the image overall, and the execution, is just... wow! It doesn't look like much to begin with as I said, but at second glance this is truely an amazing piece. Well done.

I love this piece! Dark and gloomy and gives a clear focal point on the soldier due to him being rendered in higher definition. Great workk! Reminds me of of one of my first works, although with much better anatomy and I love the general design of the soldier with his post-apocalyptic armour.

My main quaral with this image is the tank which is a bit skewed. The turret doesn't sit on the same axis as the main part of the tank. The tanks left tradmill should have been lower and more hidden from sight. It might be possible that it is standing on a rock or in a slope but then the turrent should be tilted as well. It's such a shame as the rest of the piece is really moody and well executed (Motivation for 4.5/5).

I love the almost indestinguisable background with the houses, smoke, etc. These give real depth to the piece. What strikes me most though is the soldiers pose and the cold stare that he gets due to the gear he is wearing. Very creepy yet supremely awesome. Well done!

VerdRage responds:

Whoa, I couldn't describe this pic better by myself. :D Everything you said is bullseye. I've broke perspective on this tank, I admit it. :/

Hi, I'm a PhD in Software Engineering that uses art as an escape from my work. I like to draw but also to work in other media such as putty, which I've used to build my award winning showcars.
